Favorite Painters:
Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669): Many of Rembrant's paintings movingly reflect biblical stories and themes. In his paintings his use of light is remarkable.
Here is a gallery of his prominent paintings: http://www.rembrandthuis.nl/bedankt_en.html |
Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890): It's been said that van Gogh's spiritual vision and faith began to fade after a crisis point in his life, However, despite struggles with mental illness, his paintings up to the very end of his life reflect a profound spiritual vision and the inspiration of the Christian faith of his youth. See Kathleen Powers Erickson, At Eternity's Gate: The Spiritual Vision of Vincent van Gogh (Eerdmans). A number of van Gogh prints grace our home. A couple of my favorites are "First Steps" and "The Good Samaritan."
